Bramble airport (also sometimes known as Blackburne Airport) was a small local airport on the east coast of Montserrat which was destroyed in 1997 by the eruption of the nearby Soufriere Hills volcano. |

The tiny airport was named after the chief minister of Montserrat, William Henry Bramble. The Airport which was located on the other side of the volcano from Plymouth, was the only method of air travel in and out of the island.
Since the dock in Plymouth was also destroyed, access to and from the island for several years after 1997 was mainly restricted to helicopters and landing craft type boats. In 2005 the new John A Osborne Airport was opened at the northern end of the island beyond the reach of the volcano. |
