Great Tobago - British Virgin Islands |
|
The tiny islands of Great Tobago and Little Tobago lie just six miles east of Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands and north west of St Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands. The photo above was taken from the east end of Jost Van Dyke.
Great Tobago and Little Tobago belong to the BVI and are two of the most isolated and protected of the Virgin Islands. Both islands are uninhabited and have very large nesting sea bird colonies including Frigate Birds, Pelicans, Terns, Boobies and Tropic Birds. Great Tobago has the only Frigate Bird nesting site in the BVI.
Rarely visited, Great and Little Tobago islands have several good dive sites with some of the best marine life in the BVI with the steep cliffs plunging over 160 feet underwater to the seabed. We understand the "Little Tobago and Great Tobago National Park" has a 'no anchor' policy and visitors are discouraged from going ashore.
