Spanish Town and Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour |
|
Aerial photograph of Spanish Town and Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, British Virgin Islands. Spanish Town (also known locally as "The Valley") was originally the capital of the British Virgin islands until Road Town on Tortola succeeded it in 1741. The town has a small number of restaurants and shops selling a variety of local Virgin Islands arts and crafts, mostly located at the Yacht Harbour complex.
Regular ferries run between Road Town and Spanish Town and also Trellis Bay on Beef Island (Tortola's airport) and Leverick Bay, the Bitter End Yacht Club and Biras Creek. Ferries also connect Spanish Town with Cruz Bay St John and Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas.
For further information see the North Sound Express, Smith's or Speedy's Ferries: Click here for the BVI Ferry Timetable
Spanish Town also has a small airport with flights to other Virgin Islands. See also our special feature page of photographs of The Baths Virgin Gorda
